In what may prove to be the first act of a new president’s presidency, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will be attending the annual Academy Awards.
The Prime Minister will be joined by actor-director Mark Rylance and singer-songwriter Taylor Swift on the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday night.
It’s a rare opportunity for the Prime Minister to attend a ceremony where he or she is not the only person to be honoured, given the role he or her will play in shaping the nation’s future.
It comes at a time when many Australians are looking forward to the new government’s first official act in office, when they are expected to introduce legislation that will pave the way for the construction of a $7.8 billion regional rail link between Sydney and Melbourne.
In an era when many states and territories are considering the creation of a national rail network, the decision to be at the ceremony means the Prime Ministers first act in the new year will be to be seen to deliver the government’s policy promises.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics says that there were 1.18 million Australians living in remote, remote-spaced regions in 2016, a drop of about 50 per cent since 2007.
More than half of the country’s people live in those remote areas, and some of the nation ‘s poorest areas are also remote.
The new Prime Minister has already promised to build a rail link, as well as invest $3.5 billion into infrastructure in remote communities.
The proposed rail link will take passengers from Sydney’s CBD to a new station in the Gold Coast city of Mildura, and a further 1,000 kilometres from Mildura to the Goldfields in western Victoria.
The government is also aiming to invest $2 billion into new schools and to build 1,300 kilometres of new road.
The federal government has also said it will invest $5 billion to improve rail links between the Golds and the Gold Fields.
The rail link is expected to be complete by 2020, with the government expecting it to have a major impact on the economy.
The move comes after the government announced it was considering a plan to build an alternative rail link from Perth to the Sydney CBD, but it has been left to state and territory governments to decide whether to fund it.
The decision to put forward the plan to create the rail link came after a review into the need for a new rail link into the Goldfield and the Perth suburbs.
The review was undertaken by the state government, and was completed in December.
The Andrews Government said that the project was part of its commitment to build new schools, roads, and rail services.
In September, a new report by the independent National Infrastructure Commission recommended that the rail line should be built.
However, it has not yet been decided whether the rail route should be part of the federal government’s regional rail network.
Mr Turnbull’s attendance at the Oscars will be a significant step in the government ‘s plans for the new years.
It will be his first time attending the Oscars since becoming Prime Minister in May 2019, and his first trip to the Hollywood awards.
Mr Trump is currently enjoying his Christmas holiday in Hawaii.
However Mr Turnbull will not be attending.
Mr Rylant, who is best known for his role as the love interest of Tom Cruise in the movie Ocean’s Eleven, has been a vocal supporter of Mr Trump and has been vocal in his support for the President.
He recently tweeted that he is ‘very proud’ of Mr Turnbull for attending the Oscar.
